Matthew 9:1-8, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26
And stepping into a boat, he passed over, and came to His own city. And He entered again into Capernaum, and it was heard after some days that He was in the house. And it came to pass in one of the days, that He was teaching, and there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting by, who came out of every village of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was in Him to heal. And [immediately]T many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door, and He was speaking the word to them. And behold, some men came (and) were bringing to Him, lying on a stretcher, a man who was paralyzed, carried by four men, and they were trying to carry him in, and to place (him) in view of Him. And being unable to get near Him, not finding any way to bring him in because of the crowd, going up on the roof, they uncovered the roof where He was, and tearing it out, they let him down through the tiles with the stretcher on which the paralytic was lying, right in the middle, in front of Jesus. And seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Take courage, childMARK [manLUKE]. Your sins have been forgiven you.” And behold, there were some of the scribes and the Pharisees sitting there, and thinking in their hearts, saying to themselves, “Why does this One speak like this? Who is this Man Who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins, except God only?” And immediately, Jesus knowing in His spirit that they were thinking that way within themselves, answered and said to them, “Why are you thinking evil about these things in your hearts? For which is easier to say to the paralytic – ‘Your sins have been forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise, and take up your stretcher, and walk?’ But that you might know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins,” He then said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise. Take up your stretcher, and go away to your house.” And at once he rose, and immediately he took up the stretcher that he had been lying on, and went out before them all. He went to his house, glorifying God. And seeing this, the crowds were all seized with amazement, and they were glorifying God, Who had given such power to men, and they were filled with fear, saying, “We have never seen anything like this. We have seen remarkable things today.”

Jesus saw their faith, which is why the stretcher bearers were counted as well.
