Encounter 54 – Two Men Preparing for Last Supper

Jesus’ Instructions: Finding the Upper Room

Matthew 26:17-20, Mark 14:12-17, Luke 22:7-14

Then came the first day of unleavened bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. He was saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.”

And His disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?”

And He sent two of His disciples, Peter and John, and He said to them, ”Behold, when you go into the city to a certain man, (he) will meet you, carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him. And into the house that he enters, you will say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, ‘My time is at hand. I am to keep the Passover at your house. Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’’ And he will show you a large, furnished and ready upper room, and prepare it for us there.” And the disciples departed, and they came to the city, and found everything just as He had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

And when the evening hour had come, He sat at the table, and with Him the twelve apostles.

How did this happen? It appears that Jesus told Peter and John to go to Jerusalem and find a man with a pitcher of water. I believe that Jesus had many more disciples than are mentioned in the Bible, with one group being in Jerusalem. During one of the times that Jesus went away to pray, He was most likely also visiting His other groups of disciples. One of these visits He told the disciples in Jerusalem to prepare for the Passover and that the Twelve from Galilee would be coming. Yes, He could have done it supernaturally, but Jesus wants us be His hands and feet and serve others.
